Evaluation (Unit 2)

Unit 2 Evaluation

When I first entered the course I had certain skills. I had basic editing skills on Photoshop and Picnik (editing website) . I also had basic knowledge of cameras and video cameras. I mostly new how to use them as it a bit of common knowledge i needed. I knew a few of the basic shortcuts for apple Photoshop. I was defiantly not very confident using the different tools provided on photoshop. However now my skills have improved and I know more about using Photoshop than when i first entered the course even though i still have more to learn about photoshop i am willing to learn as photoshop is such a good way to edit photos etc. Also my skills on setting up a tripod and loading a tape and the basic conventions of opening sequences have improved through out the course. Also when I entered the course I had no knowledge of using a scanner and putting it up onto my Blogger. I had to get help to do this and now i know how to do this.

When I first started media didn't organise my folders and because of this i lost certain work. I also didn't and name them properly so it made it a lot harder for myself to find the work i needed to because I didn’t know what any of the files were called so I had to waste a lot of valuable time opening them all to check what they were. I also realised that I used to save my work to the desktop which also wasted time because if i had to use a different computer I didn’t have any of my work and this made it very difficult for me.

In my media work I try to take as much care as I can by checking all spellings, then cropping my photos, also in my treatment I kept checking my grammar for example, using punctuation, using capital letters to make it all look more professional however i also used a wide range of vocabulary to suit the professional look of my treatment.

In my media work have tried to be as creative as I can and to put my full effort into my work in media. Since the start of the course I think my creativity has improved which has helped me to come up with better ideas with more thought into them throughout my work.I could defiantly still improve on my work by using my more creative side. As we go futher through the course my creative side has shown a lot more.

I think that I have a lot of skills that I could improve a lot more however there are some areas on the course that I struggle with such as sometimes using photoshop as i don't know how everything works on there but i normally ask then learn what they are. When im learning where the buttons and settings are i get confused as it's a lot different to any other editing pages i have used before. The set out for the page is completely different to. Another thing is i can't remember all the shortcuts on the mac and I sometimes need to ask for help on how to do something on the mac or on photoshop.I now name all my files so they don't get lost and i don't know where they are. Another thing I could improve is my page layout on my work and I think I should start to make my work look more presentable and professional. I will focus on this in my next unit.

The Results For My Questionnaire.

My results of the questionnaire so that the cover of the magazine attracts them to the magazine and it effects what they think about the whole magazine before they read it or buy it. 70% of the people we asked who said they buy magazines the other 20% said they sometimes buy magazines and the other 10% said they don't buy magazines. This may be because of the cover of the magazine. The age that most people who buy magazines are 11-20 year olds. I am going to make a magazine that suits this age group. The price is between £2.00 - £2.50. The questionnaire shows that more females buys magazine that males. I want to make my magazine to fit both sex's. My magazine has plenty of colour and will attract a lot of attention. I want my magazine to be unique and it will be as i have done this questionnaire to make sure my magazine is how people expect a magazine to be but also to make a change in the magazine industry. My magazine will be released every 1st of each month. The reason is that if 1 was released every week not as many people would buy it as it would be out so often people would get bored of different magazines coming out. By the time they have been out for a month people can look forward to the next magazine to be out. Looking at my questionnaire i am going to create a magazine that fits all of these things that people want in a childrens magazine.

Kid Cudi vs. Crookers - Day 'n' Night

The Kooks - Naive

Example - 'Stay Awake' (Official Video)

Example Video Analysis.

The artist Example uses a wide range of shots for the different videos.. All videos show close ups of the artist and with the people also involved in the video. In the different videos they use quite low contrast colours but they still catch attention. The videos all seem to have a party going in them which shows that Example could enjoy making people happy or having a good time. 'Example' focuses on peoples happiness and show's everyone in the video to be happy and having a great time. The purpose of the through out theme throughout all Examples videos is to show a that Example wants his video's to be alike in small ways.

Music Video Screenshots And Comparison.

These videos of different genres show the different shots used in the videos that are similar. These are all good examples to show that depending on the genre the videos change. These artists all seem to enjoy having a good time, i know this by just watching their music videos.

Similarities And Differences Of A Mixture Of Music Video Clips.

example-stay awake.
i choose one of examples video as it has a strong image shown throughout the video and the people in the video show an interest in each-other but are also very independent.

david guetta-sexy chick.
i choose one these videos is because david guetta is a strong dj who has a beat which also matches with lyrics and matches with the video. he seems very wild in his videos shown throughout the music he creates.

professor green-never be the right time.
i choose this video because it shows his feeling throughout the different shots of the video. he is expressing his feelings as there is a girl in the videos which is showing he must love her and how he thinks its not the right time and this matches with the lyrics in the video.

ed sheeran-drunk.
I choose this video because the genre of this video matches the other genres to the videos I chose. The videos and lyrics don't match each other which makes the video and song more questioned about what its about.

Music Video Analysis.

I am analysing This music video is called Stay awake, the artist is    example. Adam Powell directs this music video.
The genre is; Electro house, dubstep, hip-hop. The video is set in a very urban location with a group of people with him dressing very casual.

The relationship between the lyrics and visual is that they relate   the lyrics and the visuals together. Example -  ‘did we chase the rabbit into wonderland’ – the visuals show that they are following a rabbit into the forest. This connects the lyrics with the visuals.

This video cuts at the beat. There are no instrumental bits illustrated in this video. At points of the video the pace of the music changes with the visuals to either speed up or slow the pace down in this music video.

There are close-ups of artists which means the artist is trying to sell this track as fun and enjoying being young. This artist is showing that they are having a party and people are enjoying there self.
The image the artist is being offered is he has two different sides to him; a wild side and where he is being serious. This shows in the video.
This music video relates to the artists previous videos        because the videos are very different to the average music video.
There is no reference to the notion of looking.
Example has no sexual features on display even though the actors involved in the music video do so they stand out more in the music video.
Examples clothing is his statement of his attitude and the actors have an attractive clothing state meant.  These features have been chosen so that the younger generation is more attract to the song by the appearance of the actors and the artist.

This video relates to other music videos because the aspect of the previous videos are that he is very strange with very different videos each time he produces a new video and song.
this shows that he wants to be known as being different to other artists.
The music video has a completely different effect on people than a music video as this music video shows that people just want to live there life because the lyrics used ‘ will they believe us if we tell them the reason why?’ - questioning whether people believe them because they are having fun and enjoying themselves.

This music video in gages the audience more because the music video has a story behind it. comparing the video and the lyrics together to make the video match.

To sum up the overall essay on this music video i would say that the music video is  attracting the younger generations attention as this video has different bits that would appeal to younger people. this video fits with the lyrics and the music as its quite an upbeat song.

Treatment

Music Video Treatment By Olivia Halliwell Williams.

The song by Jessie J called 'Price Tag' is a upbeat fun song from the album called 'Who You Are' which was released in 2011. This music video supports the exciting vibe the song  gives off. The song implies that life isn't all about money and  it's a good lesson to learn. My video will use this message throughout the music video i am making. The music starts and the video starts with an opening of recording of the sun set going up but from a long shot but i will speed it up. The setting will be in a rural area. I want my music video to focus on the lyrics and the words and the meanings to the lyrics. The video will then have a rich good looking, tall, young male walking down a high street where there are loads of shops and they will be buying loads of things then there is a 20 year old, hobo looking female who lives on the street who can't afford anything. The young man will be wearing a smart suit with very finely polished brogues. The woman was wearing torn jeans with a old Reebok jumper. The music will show that 'it's not about the money'. Then in the music video it shows a close up of the homeless persons facial expressions and then show's the facial expression on the other person who is buying loads. This close up shows there emotions. Both of their emotions are completely different. The music video keep flashing back to a picture of a large amount of money when the lyrics saying 'Ain't about the cha-ching,cha-ching Ain't about the ba-bling, ba-bling' referring to money. Then in the video there is a wide shot of them both walking by each other then the both catch each others eyes. 'We'll pay them with love tonight' in the lyrics playing when the catch each others eye sight. However they have seen each other before. They then go on to fall in love in the music video then after this moment there is a long shot through the window of them really happy working class couple with two children. The music video show's that it isnt about the price tag and the play on words in the lyrics show this with the connect with the video as this show's that it's not about the money it's about the making people happy or about not mattering how much money you have. I have focused on a video like this because the lyrics say about not worrying about money/price tag and enjoy what you have. I have used a mixture of shots such as: long shot, close up and a wide shot to show different points of things (emotional and physical). On the video there are certain spots that change on the beat of the song. This makes the video and the music work together better.

LYRICS FOR PRICE TAG (JESSIE J) -

Okay, Coconut man, Moon Heads and pea
You ready

Seems like everybody's got a price,
I wonder how they sleep at night.
When the sale comes first,
And the truth comes second,
Just stop for a minute and
Smile

Why is everybody so serious?
Acting so damn mysterious?
Got your shades on your eyes
And your heels so high
That you can't even have a good time

[Pre-chorus:]
Everybody look to their left (yeah)
Everybody look to their right (uh)
Can you feel that (yeah)
We're paying with love tonight

[Chorus:]
It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the price tag
Ain't about the (uh) Cha-Ching Cha-Ching
Ain't about the (yeah) Ba-Bling Ba-Bling
Wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the price tag.

[Jessie J]
We need to take it back in time,
When music made us all unite!
And it wasn't low blows and video hoes,
Am I the only one getting tired?

Why is everybody so obsessed?
Money can't buy us happiness
Can we all slow down and enjoy right now
Guarantee we'll be feeling alright

[Pre-chorus]

[Chorus]

[B.o.B]
Yeah yeah
Well, keep the price tag
And take the cash back
Just give me six strings and a half stack
And you can, can keep the cars
Leave me the garage
And all I, yes all I need
Are keys and guitars
And guess what, in 30 seconds
I'm leaving to Mars
Yeah we leaving across
These undefeatable odds
It's like this man
You can't put a price on a life
We do this for the love
So we fight and sacrifice
Every night
So we ain't gonna stumble and fall
Never
Waiting to see a sign of defeat
Uh uh
So we gonna keep everyone
Moving their feet
So bring back the beat
And then everyone sing

It's not about the money

[Chorus 2x]

[Jessie J ‒ Outro]
Yeah yeah
Oh-oh
Forget about the price tag
